About

Doctoral researcher, sometime field-experimenter, occasional engineer. Working at the seam between computational social science and the platforms that organize public life.

I am a PhD student at Rutgers University’s School of Communication and Information, working with Kiran Garimella. My research follows misinformation as it moves through private messaging platforms — encrypted, hard to instrument, and increasingly the dominant medium of political talk in much of the world — alongside parallel strands on hate-speech campaigns in elections, peer fact-checking on WhatsApp, the accessibility of user-facing moderation tools, and the rules people write to govern their own online communities. Recent collaborations have taken me to the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research, to Cornell Tech, and to the Security, Trust & Safety Initiative.

Before Rutgers I read computational social science at the University of Chicago, where I worked with Molly Offer-Westort and Nick Feamster on adaptive field-experimental tools for correcting misperceptions on Indian WhatsApp. Earlier still I was an engineer in Bangalore — firmware at Smarterhomes Technologies and Bosch Global Software.
